It's a magnificent site with rich history going back to mid 1800s. The original building was built in 1856 as Sydney Morning Herald building then demolished in the 1920s to make way for the current building. The fascinating thing about this beautiful building is its location right on the junction of Pitt Street, Hunter Street and O'Connell Street. It served as offices for John Fairfax and Sons' Sydney Morning Herald from 1927-1955. It was then acquired by the Bank of New South Wales (commonly known as The Wales) hence the name! Another spectacular example of Interwar Commercial Renaissance Palazzo architecture. For a building with such rich history and design, I absolutely love this heritage building. Absolutely worth exploring for all ages and backgrounds.
