Faultless. From the minute we entered the dining room, greeted with the smell of a kitchen cooking up perfection, until we were bid goodbye with cafe recommendations in hand, we were in absolute heaven. The food here is stellar. Everything we ate sent us into fits of "oh my god." Cocktails, the same. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the space is warm and cosy. A dinner to remember cannot recommend this place highly enough. SIX STARS. Thank you to the team.

Walking in the Surly Goat is always a highlight of a trip to Hepburn Spring; not only because of the professional and enthusiastically un-surly service that begins immediately upon arrival, but because you know youre in for a great time. Consistency is king in hospitality, and the Goat has it in spades, continuing to exceed expectations each and every visit. The food is impressive without being pretentious, with the various bite-sized appetisers that kick things off almost as soon as youre seated always as creative as they are delicious. Having visited with vegetarians and pescatarians, the staff and kitchen are very accommodating, creating alternative options that dont feel like a compromise. The wine list is well curated, offering a broad but not overwhelming spectrum of local and international options. And if you do find yourself torn between gamay and grenache, you have an expert glou-glou guide in the cheerful and knowledgeable sommelier. The Surly Goat is a fantastic and unassuming gem that is as much a testament to the owners passion for hospitality (in the true sense of the word) as it is the quality of the regional, seasonal produce the ever-changing set menu highlights. If youre staying in spa country or even feel like a day trip I strongly recommend grabbing the Goat by the horns.
