Extremely poor customer service. Only use for simple individual tax returns. I could not have had a worse experience with M J C & Co. Accountants. After reading the positive Google reviews I was hopeful that M J C would be able to help me with my tax return. I have always done my own tax but thought I would make things a bit easier for myself this year with some local, professional help. I couldn't have been more wrong. With an email exchange exceeding 50 emails (you read right), Jane from M C J made repeated mistakes which I had to point out and ask to have rectified. For one of these mistakes I was told multiple times that I was wrong, before M J C finally acknowledged that a mistake had been made. This mistake would have cost me thousands of dollars in additional tax beyond what was required. I also asked for the Capital Gains Tax worksheet to verify that everything had been accounted for, but in response (and I quote) I was told that "The CGT calculation can be complicated, but your case is quite simple to me. So, I dont have worksheet, just my 20 years experience." This was despite having been charged for the CGT worksheet, which didn't include a number of CGT events I had told M J C about. The only redeeming experience I had was that a partial refund for the mistakes was agreed to, and I was released from the agreement to be able to complete my tax return elsewhere. If your tax return is extremely simple and largely automated by the reporting that the ATO receives against your tax file number then I'm sure you will be fine, but if you have anything more complex such as investment property income, or disposal of shares throughout the year then you're in trouble. Avoid at all costs - I'm sure you can find somebody that appreciates your business and is interested in building a long term relationship as your accountant. You won't find this at M J C & Co. Accountants.
