The walk looks lovely but the 4WD track is blocked 15/2/22 about 2km south of the start. Fire management were heading there as we left, but maybe check before you drive - its a very hard track to turn around on.

To reach the top of Mt Bogong I parked the car at Mountain Creek Campground and walked along the 4WD-only Mountain Creek Road all the way up to the Eskdale Spur Hiking Trailhead (albeit with a short detour track that departs the road at the last crossing if the mountains creek road). There were about 6-7 creek crossing most (but not all) had bridges or stepping stones but some needed to be waded through on foot. Mountain creek road follows the creek all the way up, it's lush vegetation and the sound of flowing water the whole way, very tranquil. Took me about 2 hours to get to the Eskdale Spur trailhead. The first section of the Eskdale trailhead can be very steep and a little loose under foot but manageable with good fitness and good shoes. The track is easy to find and passes by Michelle Hut, but there are few flat section of track with the uphill being mostly relentless to the top. Going this route took 3.5 hours from the campground to Mt Bogong with only a few 3-4min breaks. Carry plenty of water (2l) especially on a hot day. I descended via the Staircase Spur Track, which was probably steeper and drier vegetation but good for some variation and took about 3hours back to the campground with 2-3 short breaks.
