This hostel is currently closed though accommodation at the 13th apostle backpackers can be accessed via the Great Ocean walk hike support operators. There is a basic kitchen and decent bathroom, lounge and good covered outdoor patio with BBQ, stove and furniture. Located in the currently ghost town of Princetown, it is conveniently close to the 12 apostle tourist attractions and more. Plenty of mosquitoes and March flies.

Very very weird experience. Arrived in the evening to a completely empty and completely unlocked hostel. Front door and all balcony and side doors were unlocked, literally no staff and no one else staying. Called the number on the website and the lady who answered said she hadn't worked there for years? Called another number 6 times and left a message. Eventually the host called back. Seemed quite unconcerned about the hostel being deserted and unlocked. Gave me the code to enter the front door (which was very unnecessary, was already unlocked). Was very creeped out by the situation, felt pretty unsafe and would DEFINITELY not recommend if traveling alone. Seemed lucky that the room we were in seemed to be the only room where we were able to lock both room and balcony doors - 100% wouldn't have stayed the night otherwise. We had no idea how long the hostel had been unlocked for. Not sure if this was because it wasn't during peak season, but regardless was very strange, and the manager should have a duty to guarantee the safety of guests all year round. Didn't see another living soul for the duration of our stay. I feel that a running a hostel is more than just providing a bed for a night. Don't think it's unreasonable to expect a certain amount of security and customer service.
