        The eleven-story building opened in 1963 and was designed along Modernist lines then. Architect: Eggleston, MacDonald and Secomb When it was built in 1963, the Menzies Building - dubbed the Ming Wing after Menzies' nickname of Ming - was a grand statement, the biggest university building in Australia. Sir Robert Gordon Menzies, was an Australian politician who twice served as Prime Minister of Australia, in office from 1939 to 1941 and again from 1949 to 1966. He is Australia's longest-serving prime minister, serving over 18 years in total. The Menzies Building plays a major role in the life of the University, in particular at the Clayton campus, where it accommodates some 900 staff and provides teaching space for 2600 students, Professor Willis said.
