Had 2 Hernia operations (right indirect inguinal which had a 35 mm neck opening and left direct inguinal having a 20 mm neck opening with a weak stomach wall) in October 2023 on the right groin and 5 weeks later on the left groin by placing mesh on both sides over the holes. Although the first operation had some success, on the second round, another mesh over the previous mesh resulted in success and the smaller one too on the left groin covered the holes successfully. Just to make sure the operations were successful, had a ultra sound test done 3 months later in February and the report with both groins reported to be unremarkable. Conclusion was that that the bilateral previous inguinal hernia repair status with mesh is in situ. No femoral hernia identified on both sides of the groin and experienced some pain which later disappeared. The slight protrusion of fat on the right groin has also disappeared. Have to say that little pain did I feel after each operation. Must say that Dr Cheng has done a remarkable operation on both groins and I can only say that his pleasant attendance to my problem has been very rewarding and satisfying. Now have to wait for the seroma on the right side behind the mesh to be absorbed by the body. Apparently after an operation there is always some seroma that may take some time to disappear. Now I hope to enjoy life without fear and watch that I don't lift more than 5 kg weight. Will go back 6 months later for another ultra sound to see what shrinking have occurred on the size of the seroma. The ultra sound disc collected of the images prior and post operation may prove the level of success.

Not a good surgeon, very arrogant when things go wrong. Causes chronic pain in hernia surgery. Do not use him.

Paid all up $10,000 and had a simple inguinal hernia operation. Large painful abnormal seroma formed after 2 days. My stomach swelled up and unpleasant pain resulted across right abdomen that took months to subside. He cut the hernia sac, but did not tell me, stating the operation was excellent and as a result when I should have been taking additional care to avoid straining I did not and a seroma formed. Further chronic long term nerve damage to the genitofemoral nerve resulted after Cheng's advice at 4 months, when it finally started to improve, that I was fine to go back to work, lifting and doing yoga. First strong yoga class caused the seroma to rupture and refill, undo months of repair, get much worse, leading to serious nerve damage, when the seroma would not drain overnight and built up with fluid for more than a week. He advised against draining it. He was rude, did not answer questions or just with one word or barely literate sentence, hung up on the phone and left me in real fear. And blamed me saying it was anxiety and I was wasting his precious time and a seroma was not a complication. His manner did improve when he realised it was a serious issue. But offered nothing to research or rectify the problem and broke communication when serious nerve damage occurred. His secretary misinformed me that he used the mesh I wanted which was the reason I used him and it turned out he had never used the mesh before and may not have put in place correctly. I am now in pain whenever I exert, do yoga, exercise, physical work or drive and have constant moderate to severe pain - effectively disabled. Burning skin pain also making clothes painful round the waist. Total hell for over 4 years, close to suicide at stages, where top hernia surgeons have told me one of the worst outcomes they have ever seen and have said I have to have the nerve cut and 25% chance of getting worse if I do this, or a spinal implant. He overloads himself with patients and never admits he is wrong. I trusted him, came from NSW and paid privately as I had no insurance, because I believed he was a very good surgeon and as a yoga teacher running an adventure yoga retreat it was essential I get a good result as my job depends on my health - my new business has been barely operational with huge loss. I rang Boxhill Hospital and they told me that he did not normally do hernia surgery and would not be described as an expert surgeon in that field. I am now in a process of suing and complaining to AHPRA. I am suspicious about the reviews posted subsequent to this in which the people have only reviewed one item. Easily the worst experience in my life by a mile. I was very healthy even with the hernia, till this!

I'm very grateful to have had Mr. Michael Cheng looking after my medical heath issue. I had a major operation on my thyroid with Mr. Cheng. He was very supportive, patient, kind and professional all the way I through. Every day, I feel very lucky to have had such a professional, caring person take care of my health issue. I can`t thank Mr. Cheng enough and I can sincerely recommend Mr. Cheng for anyone looking for a quality medical professional in his area of expertise.

Dr Cheng is an excellent surgeon. He understood my situation and reached out to me with kindness when I hit rock bottom. He was very caring and helped me gain confidence throughout both my surgery and treatment procedures. He is extremely passionate about bringing the best cosmetic outcome in breast conserving surgery for breast cancer, which has been demonstrated through his impeccable work ethic. He demonstrated his surgical skillset during my operation which resulted in only minimal scarring; this fact also reinforced with positive comments from workers in the healthcare industry. I will definitely not hesitate in recommending him to anyone. I currently visit him for on-going care post-surgery, and have been for 4 years.
