I am writing a review about Dr Yvonne Chow. I saw her about a year ago, and to be honest up until now I had decided to let my negative experience go and try to forget about it, but then I was thinking about any other patients that could be spared the negative experience like I was. I came to Dr Chow because I was displaying symptoms of hormone imbalances including oestrogen issues and adrenal. During the consult the questions I was asking (when I knew something wasn't right with my hormones) she seemed to dismiss with generic 'explanations' and she told me that based on my blood tests etc, there were no hormonal imbalances and was giving reasons like 'anxiety', 'bad PMS', pre-menopause etc as explanations for my symptoms. I told her this was not the case, that I wanted to get to the root of the problem and tried to explain the variety of symptoms and pushing for further testing as my body was not lying with the symptoms I was displaying. Dr Chow's EQ didn't seem to hold up in our consultation as she started to get annoyed with me and rushing the consult to get me out. Her solution to this 'invisible' problem that I was presenting was for me to either try a hormone pill which would have treated anxiety/depression (I think it was a small dose antidepressant) or some sort of BC bill and to 'see how I go' with my symptoms. She made me feel like the problem was in my head (when it should have been a patient centred approach where she was genuinely wanting to find the root of the problem). It was an expensive consultation and I felt rushed and like just a number, like she wanted to take my money and get me out so she could serve the next patient. I did not feel like she was a genuine, caring professional and I hope that anyone reading this review will be spared the experience that I had. Maybe because she seems quite young she may be inexperienced as an endocrinologist, but the lack of empathy and professional care was just unacceptable. After seeing her I went to get a second opinion from a different specialist, and this other specialist looked over my blood tests and told me right away that I had a hormonal imbalance and problems with oestrogen dominance. He also went over the reasons as to why I could have suddenly developed this. This is why I am writing this review because this made me furious that I wasted all that money to see Dr Chow, got treated like a number, and wasn't even given professional or accurate medical advice. Very disappointing. My advice to anyone reading this, is that you as a patient know your body better than anyone else, and if something doesn't feel right, do not take a health 'professional's' word that there is nothing wrong with you and make you feel like it is all in your head. And just because someone has an accreditation as a 'specialist' doesn't always mean that they are good at their job. Do your research and find a reputable and EXPERIENCED specialist that really knows their stuff and who will listen to you as a patient and not dismiss you.
