Came here referred by optometrist for central cornea ulcer as I was told it may cost long lasting damage to vision. It was great they could fit me in so quickly but I was yelled at for merely not knowing what is meant by dabbing as I was told not to wipe. He was quite condescending and sarcastic afterwards. I feel unnerved. I wouldn't come back nor would I recommend to go here unless for an emergency at the way he treats patients for trying to ask a question or for clarification. The receptionist was nice and so was the student in the office with him. The opthamologist - Dr. Bruce Monro - however I've found to be extremely unprofessional. It would've been appreciated instead of being yelled at the opthamologist responds calmly to show the proper dabbing procedure and doesn't mock the patient for asking clarification. The student clarified it once which was great. However the opthamologist kept on telling the student to repeat it to me in such an inappropriate manner. I've stated I merely required clarification once so I'm certain I'm doing the appropriate action to not further worsen my condition and once was enough. The opthamologist's explanation was not clarifying as he was yelling and aggressively showed the action, I was stunned and could not notice what the appropriate action is meant by dabbing. It is concerning if this is how he treats other patients as well. He jokes "if I would be brave enough to come back" - I don't think I will be back as it was a rather awful experience. I don't think anyone would want to exactly go to a healthcare provider that is aggressive and screams at them for asking a question for clarification. It is beyond concerning if this is the norm as the student themselves did not react to the yelling and seems to try to appease the opthamologist as though this is common behaviour. He then loudly raises his voice to the student in the office, another student likely came in to check in on all the noise, of the instructions of the medication prescribed. There was no need for her to say it to me as I can clearly hear him say it. This is awful unprofessional behaviour in my opinion. I was wordless at the extreme anger I was given for not being certain about what kind of movement is meant by dabbing one's eye. I did not expect such aggression at all. Another patient in the waiting area stated she has gone to see him before and was great. It was unfortunate that was not true for my experience today. I hope more patience is practiced here to patients who are concerned of their health and wants to actually make sure they're doing the right thing.

Very disappointed. Referral was for eyes that would weep so much you had to have them closed while walking and also wondering why pupils were dilating and staying dilated every day. After almost an hour of eyesight testing and extreme rudeness directed at myself when Bruce wanted to look at my daughter's glasses and I questioned that. Almost at the end of consult, our issues had like 2 minutes spent on them, where he decided that my daughter would be referred to another ophthalmologist. It was very nice for Dr Munro to do a referral but unfortunately very unnecessary as we could only allocate 1 visit to an ophthalmologist per year due to at least a dozen other specialists being involved in a highly complex medical case with my very unwell daughter. I just wish the specialists would read their referrals and decide if they were the appropriate person to see rather than waste the very little time we have that my daughter is able to travel. Dr Munro would be very unaware that the trip and consult with him would be enough to cause my daughter to be housebound for the next 4 or so days in extreme pain while she recovered from the trip. For someone with many illnesses and many other conditions, some yet to be diagnosed it took a great toll out of her and for no gain what so ever. Reception staff were very pleasant and I found the Victorian building to be very beautiful. If you have eyesight problems, Dr Munro would be great at that. I believe the weeping eyes to be a symptom of Ehler Danos but I don't think Dr Munro even knows about that genetic condition. EDIT. Found out from an extremely knowledgeable Maryborough optometrist that the condition we suffer from is pinguecula.
