Hemingway's Wine Room

With so many good french wine bars and restaurants in Melbourne its hard to justify returning to Hemmingways. The staff were fantastic, however a complete lack of ambience on a saturday (it felt like we were dining in a empty cafe) and an overpriced menu without any standout dishes left us feeling ultimately underwhelmed.

One of the oddest places Ive been to! The website looks like a high end wine bar but the reality is an old cafe with some books, a gramophone and a typewriter on one wall. I feel like they took over the place from someone else and there is a disconnect from the original concept.. Its still pricy but the food is not good and they dont know anything about wine. Two stars because they are nice people.

Came here a couple of times now, the food is extremely delicious and the staff was very friendly. Would recommend here to anyone who plans on having a classy dinner with a great ambience.

I had a wonderful meal at Hemingway's Wine Room recently. We sampled many items right across the menu, from Oysters and Calamari to start, Duck Terrine for entree and Steak for main, as well as Citrus Tart for dessert. The service was excellent, a young gentlemen who had a smile on his face all evening. We would definately return again.

Not sure how this place has such good reviews? Service is unbelievably slow - you dont even get a menu without waving someone down. Food took forever even though we had the earliest sitting and wasnt busy. Salmon was very average - baked about 30mins too long and flavourless.
