Made us waste our time. The embassy of our home country asks for a Notary to "certify the signature" on a letter where an absent parent consents to their child to get a passport. Steve went to request us for documents of our child that only concern to the embassy, and because these documents are from other country and he doesn't understand those rules, he didn't certified my husband's signature. This was even after I'd called him and explained what we needed. What a waste of time from someone who wants to be beyond what the task at hand. Edit: I'm unable to respond to the comment entered below, so will add here. We were pressed for time as we had an appointment at the embassy in Canberra (our home country doesn't have offices in Melbourne). My husband was frustrated that this solicitor rather than trying to understand what we needed, was being dismissive and showing what seemed an assumption that we're doing something wrong. The thing is, we never asked this solicitor to confirm that my husband was the father of my daughter; our embassy had already done that! All what he needed to do was to certify that the person signing the authorisation, was in fact the person standing at that office.. Fortunately, we were able to find someone who understood what our embassy was asking for and certified my husband's signature without hesitation. Thanks to this, I was able to board the plane to attend the appointment at the embassy which went well.
