Hit and miss with the customer service, but that happens everywhere. Maybe make sure you only put friendly staff on the self serve check out so customers don't feel like they're being an imposition by flagging the staff member for assistance when the self serve station is playing up. Additional customer service training of the younger staff would be good to remind them to acknowledge customers and keep an eye out for the alert light in the self serve lane. Usually a positive, or at least neutral, experience. :)
