There are a huge number of capable insurers that want your business. HIA is not one of them. Do not choose HIA. Dont answer phones, return calls or voicemail, fail to follow through with claims, need constant supervision and oversight to process a basic claim. Unreliable, complacent, and arrogant. Case story: I made a claim against my HIA / QBE policy which was subsequently accepted. Unfortunately however, staff acting on my behalf failed to follow through; they stopped communicating with the claimant and became unreachable (scheduled settlement negotiations and conferences went unattended). After months of HIA / QBE being unresponsive, lawyers for the claimant escalated the issue, and I was pursued directly for damages along with a court date for judgment of damages notwithstanding the fact I was completely insured. Upon querying HIA, there was no acknowledgment or apology, I was simply told someone went on holiday. An unnecessarily highly stressful experience caused entirely by the mishandling and negligence of the people who collect premiums and who are trusted to handle these issues should a claim event occur. Where a claim is made using your policy, HIA will not allow you to renew. The message is clear: HIA are happy to insure you so long as you dont draw on the policy. A very poor insurance provider.

I can't understand how such a big organisation can be so bad at what it's supposed to do.
