THIS IS NOT A PARTY HOSTEL. Stop reading right now if you want to push through your farm work partying. This is the most important thing to understand about this place: rules are rules, and theres no drinking on premises. Tolga Backpackers will suit your needs if you are a serious and reliable worker who wants their 88 days done efficiently. My overall experience here has been a 100% positive. Yes, farm work is difficult. Yes, hostel life and be overwhelming. But this place offers honest and reliable services, as long as you are also an honest and reliable human. The location is near many beautiful waterfalls and areas, and offers some peace if you've been in a city for too long. Cairns is an hour-ish away for your weekends, and there's a great pub nearby to knock off after your long farm day, so really, you aren't in the middle of nowhere. There are so many horror stories about working hostels all over Australia. You wont have one here. Ive lived in Tolga Backpackers for 7 months. For 7 months, Ive had work. For 7 months, Ive shared a decent common kitchen and a decent common area with my fellow travellers. For 7 months, Ive been picked up to and from work by the reliable transport that comes with the rent. The place is clean enough, and Ive often said that IN THE WORLD OF WORKING HOSTELS, this one is a 5-star resort. Through all the difficulties experienced, especially due to coronavirus, the owner has shown an outstanding ability to adapt, solve problems, and understand travellers realities. Ive had a lot of help for which Im forever grateful from this place. I can guarantee you that the time you spend in Tolga Backpackers will be a unique experience, where you will end up calling it the best and worst experience of your life. As long as you dont try to party. Veronica

Dont miss it if you have got the chance to work and live in Tolga Backpackers Hostel. It is not a perfect hostel, but it is the best place for you to stay to finish your collection of 88 days and six months for your visa extension. The management rules set up by the director are great and effective to offer help whenever you need. And both managers from two sites are helpful and responsible. They have been trying their best to ensure every backpacker would be picked up in time for work. As for the accommodation, the rooms will be cleaned once a week including changing bedsheets and pillow cases. And usually they offer bus service every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for backpackers to do some grocery shopping in Woolworths in Atherton, which is quite convenient and enjoyable for living.
