I was a paediatric orthopaedic spine & scoliosis patient of Dr John Cummine through The Childrens Hospital at Westmead Orthopaedic outpatient clinic for many years right up till he retired from surgery in December 2008 and my transition to adult care at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle in 2009 I started seeing another surgeon for about 1 year 2009 to 2010 for ongoing concervitive management of my scoliosis, kyphosis and schermans disease where the registrar decided he would just discharge me even though I went back to Dr Cummine this time seeing him privately from 2011 to 2015 when he retired from clinical practice but I come back to him at his Westmead private rooms he welcomed me back as though I had never left he was always so caring and helpful and polite and friendly towards me and my family he took his time explaining how my scoliosis was progressing which at last review was about 55 to 60 degrees progression
( worse ) and he was very reluctant to put me into surgery and insert rods into my spine as I have a rare genetic skin condition called Nethertons syndrome ichthyosis Im at much higher risk of infection both internally and externally post surgery so he would just play the watch and wait game which proved to be more efficient for us both ,
Whenever I had to be admitted to hospital for whatever reason with last admissions being joint septic arthritis infection requiring surgery and then gastrointestinal surgery he would always make time to come and review me even if I had already been to see him a month or so previous,
Dr Cummine always thourghly looked after my X-rays for any changes ,
I was very sad that I was to no longer see him again and even today I dont think I will ever find someone else who has the same genuine, empathetic and respectful care towards a patient like he did and who actually takes pride in their work ethic,
I think my GP will be the person to look after my spinal health issues from now on as I have since seen 2 other surgeons and they didnt compare in anyway to what Dr Cummine did I trust him 100 per cent and if there was a choice of 0 to 1000 stars I would definitely be choosing the highest rating as I have today ,
I wish Dr John Cummine and his family all the very best in their futures and I say a huge thank you and I appreciate him for everything this man was able to do for me medically. Love and Kind Regards Aimee STROMEIER
