This former Royal Australian Navy ammunition site is now a heritage precinct that also includes the Newington Nature Reserve. I normally enter from Louise Savage's walkway near the Ausgrid Education Centre Building 46. This is a massive complex with a collection of buildings and bunkers. I love the railway tracks that are still visible throughout. I recommend exploring this site in the early morning (gates open at 09:00 am) or before closing time at 5:00 pm because it's really hot, especially in the summer months. I didn't have enough energy to explore all the buildings so hiring a bicycle to explore this site is a great idea. Please note that the Nature Reserve is not available for the public to access as it's protected for its fragile ecosystem and wildlife. I recommend taking the time to explore all the existing buildings. There are two buildings in use; one for Australian Birdlife and the other for Judo NSW. My absolute favourite is the old gatehouse building. There are at least two buildings as functioning public lavatories.
