Dr James Yu | Pain Specialist

I don't think - unless you suffer from chronic pain - that you can have any idea of how difficult it is to live with pain 24/7. I was recommended to go to Dr Yu - having tried everything else - and I still cannot believe how fortunate I am that this is where I ended up. I have been relatively pain free since he did the procedure and I am now able to get around with only a walking stick and no longer have need of a walker. He is a wonderful doctor and as for his staff!! They couldn't be more kind and caring and supportive. For the first time in ages I can look forward to the future. My thanks to all at Sydney Spine and Pain.

I got referral letter from Dr Richard Parkinson to see Dr James Yu. I had consultations with Dr. twice and every single time I had delay for nearly 50 mins to see him, without notification from reception, and ... When I gave them feedback, they canceled my next consultations.

I really don't complain about things often online, but my experiences with Dr Yu this week has been very disappointing and left me uncontrollably crying and feeling so helpless. I've seen him twice (one in 2019, and one again in 2022) and both times have bene the same experience. For $450 my appointment did more harm than good. Charging patients that price when they are not workers comp is so wrong. I also had to wait over 30 mins when they changed my appt and asked me to come in earlier, I still had to wait. All he did was refer me onto SOMEONE else "emerald clinics" to be prescribed medical marijuana. He hadn't communicated with Dr Parkinson at all or read the report, and he said to me, quote "I know you won't want to hear this but unfortunately you will have this pain for the rest of your life, you'll just have to find ways to manage it" - For someone who is experiencing severe and debilitating chronic pain so bad that at times, life doesn't feel worth it, and to be told that by a professional pain specialist is horrifying, and unprofessional. He was condescending, had no empathy and made me feel like the pain was all in my head. I had to then ask him for a referral for a steroid injection, he had no idea what Dr Parkinson was suggesting. I really expected by paying that much he would put a chronic pain plan in place for me, but all he did was tell me I was going to have it forever, and told me to continue taking Palexia and referred me onto someone else to be prescribed medical marijuana. I don't know what I just paid $450 for. If you want someone who is empathetic and truly cares about your pain journey, I would not recommend. The only positive was the receptionist who was so beautiful, and truly cared about me. She was an angel.

I have been in chronic pain for years. Dr Yu and his whole team at all clinics have been more than helpful and make you feel so welcomed, and treat you like a mate. Chronic pain can bring a person understandably high irritability, negativity and anger, which I think is reflected in others reviews. Theres no quick fix however, when you persist, get proactive and on the front foot with managing a pain syndrome monitored by SSP then you will rectify these emotions at times and control the stresses that come with it, using the tools they recommend and teach. I would highly recommend Dr Yu and his team to anyone and everyone. They changed my life with the way I think about pain and the stresses of life that contribute to my pain. Its an ongoing journey and I continue to see them to this day. Thank you Dr Yu and the whole SSP team!
