A few notes of caution to any potential new customer contemplating engaging Stratco's recommended contractor in the Orange/Bathurst region, Darren Wooding of Central West Home Improvements. Firstly I strongly suggest that you don't. However, if you do and do not want to experience the same fate that we did, I would like to suggest that you....1. Personally check with council to see if you need permission. 2 Before signing the contract, make sure that a full description of your job is outlined on the contract. (Not just roof size and colour of metal) Also, if you do not wish to pay 75% of the costs before construction, negotiate a more reasonable progress payment before signing. 3 Ask to see their design/drawing and check it carefully before it goes to council. 4 Ask for confirmation that the DA has been lodged and a DA number. 5 Check that the materials delivered to site are right before construction begins. Our experience with this company would have been far more pleasant if these steps had been followed. After a 3 month wait, the end result (the carport) is satisfactory, but was it really worth going through the unpleasantness to get there?
Unfortunately, all the verbal intimidation and standover practices used by the owner of this business, Darren Wooding were selectively reserved to phone conversations and in direct contrast to his follow up emails. Consequently, my attempts to lodge a complaint to Stratco about their choice of preferred contractor has fallen on deaf ears.
