Tristan Yan

Thank you to professor Yan and his Team. Four weeks after having my minimally invasive robotic mitral valve repair, I was walking for 1 hour twice daily without shortness of breath. He was reassuring and and the way he explained the procedure and how it was done and recovery made me feel relaxed. All the surgical staff could not have been more kind and caring and thoughtful what was happing and in what I may feel in and after my surgery . My words can not express my gratitude for my experience with Professor Yan and his amazing team.

Tristan Yan is my absolute hero! I was referred to him by my cardiologist Sean Lal at RPA because I was born with a moderate prolapse of the mitral valve that got a little worst in the last few years. Since the first time I met Tristan I felt I could literally trust him with my life, and I could have not been more right. Tristan and his entire team made feel reassured, well taken care of and as if I was not going through this big surgery alone but with them. Tristan, Andrea and Luiza explained to me everything in detail, responded to all of my questions and helped me in every way possible before and after the surgery. I was able to count on them throughout the whole process and I am beyond grateful for that. I am nearly 30 years old and a GP found out I had this problem when I was 5 and living in Italy. I had been terrified of this surgery for my whole life; however, when I met Tristan and he explained to me that instead of an open heart surgery he could have repaired/replaced my valve through a few little cuts on the right side of my chest, I could not believe how lucky I was. I have not felt scared one second since after meeting Tristan and his entire team. I am writing this more than 3 months post surgery. I feel extremely grateful, healthy, energised and as if I was given a new chance in life. Tristan and his team at the Sydney Adventist Hospital saved my life and I cannot wait to find out how this surgery will continue to positively impact my life, energy level and my future. Tristan, who is the most skilled, humble, caring, determined, precise, trained and prepared cardiothoracic surgeon I have ever met, was able to repair my valve despite the complexity of my valve condition and I will be eternally grateful to him for that. Luiza and Andrea, who are the most supportive, attentive, skilled, kind, professional and knowledgeable pratice manager and nurse consultant I met, made me feel at ease, reassured and very lucky to have had them by my side. I cannot stress enough how grateful I am to have been referred to Tristan and to have been operated by the most incredible team at the Sydney Adventist Hospital. A huge thank you to all of you for your incredible work, professionalism, passion and kindness. If you need a cardiothoracic surgeon in Australia and you are so lucky to get referred to Tristan, rest assured that you are in the best hands.

Prof. Yan is the most experienced surgeon I've ever met. I travelled from the NT to have the bypass surgery. It might have seemed as a scary procedure, but I felt as I was in the best hands. My whole experience from consulting, surgery and discharged home was impressive. This surgery has improved my life, and Prof. Yan and his team is to thank for that! It was definitely a blessing to have found Professor Yan and his team for my father's surgery. Everyone in the team are so professional, friendly and thorough with what they do. Our family is forever thankful and grateful for everything that Professor Yan and his team has done for us. Thanks to the pioneering Professor Yan and his team for their remarkable skill and expertise; six weeks after my minimally-invasive robotic mitral valve repair I am swimming again, totally pain-free, and have more energy than ever. As a Brit, used to the stretched resources of the beloved but ailing NHS, I found the calm, harmonious atmosphere and level of care at the RPA really impressive. The ICU cardio team and the cardio ward staff do such a valuable job, and we need to keep telling them so. A special mention must go to ICU cardio nurse Hayley Gibbs, for her infinite patience and knowledge, and for generously taking time to listen and talk me through everything that was happening.
