Came here for an anniversary dinner and had the 3 course set menu and was so disappointed! Dishes were all very average. I am pescatarian and so the kitchen prepared an eggplant dish which was terrible (eg. small slices of grilled eggplant with minimal glazing served on a bed of cold mash?). My partner had the lamb which fatty. Service matched the meals. We had 3 separate servers come up to us to take our order. Waited 30-40mins after entrees for our mains (we had an 8:45 booking and didnt end up leaving until 11:00, despite wanting to). Waitress took our empty glasses away and never asked if we wanted another. Just generally average service. Definitely not what we expected out of supposedly one of the best restaurants in Newcastle. FYI - 3 course menu was $80, 5 course $120, 7 course $145. Small serving size, 3 courses doesnt go very far.

Outstanding dining experience - the courses each with their own clean and distinct flavours and texturesall complimented with excellent range of wines from obscure Australian producers and very attentive staff. I cannot understand how this restaurant was not again given at least one hat.

My expectations were high after seeing the hefty price on arrival of $135 pp. I had some mouthing watering oysters to start (extra cost) and was feeling positive. This started to wain as I could clearly hear every conversation from the other tables as the dining space is so small. Maybe this set off my spider senses as I could now hear the clatter of dishes in the kitchen and the annoying ding of the chef clanging the bell to notify the waitress each course was ready for delivery like we were at the bowling club bistro. The menu overall was mediocre for the price with the fish a particular let down. After spending over $300 for 2 people, I was hungry when I left. I made popcorn when I got home which was the highlight of my night.
