My Son was forcibly admitted to Hornsby Mental Health, when he presented at the emergency dept for what appeared to be in my opinion delusional tendencies from extreme lack of sleep and drinking too much coffee that caused a high heart rate. He was involuntarily held by the treating emergency doctor (I later found all he needed was to be sedated and given something to help him get some sleep) he was then held for many weeks, when in my opinion (I am not a doctor of any sort) began deteriorating to an even worse state from their medication of high doses of lithium etc. I then applied to the mental health tribunal to have a hearing and have him removed from their so-called care, where his treating doctor advised she was experimenting with medications which in my opinion again proved she did not have an accurate diagnosis of his mental health state, when I applied for the transcript of the hearing the doctors testimony was unfortunately cut out by technical difficulties as they called it. The Hornsby mental health dept received numerous complaints from me regarding my sons care and regarding his belongings that also went missing worth around $200+ that were placed in the care of the nurses. Later, I received a call from the Hornsby mental health team to see how I was going, as they put it. I advised them harshly I was not OK and especially of what they were doing to him with unnecessary and dangerous medications doing more harm to him which was extremely obvious to me, keeping in mind this is my opinion and I am not a doctor. Several days later I had Police at my door at home with a nurse from the mental health unit who I invited into my home to speak although he refused and I was hand cuffed arrested and placed involuntarily in the mental health unit where I was continually drugged day and night for 5 days and at one stage passed out from being forcibly administered 9 pills at once ( the usual maximum stay for assessment by law is 3 days but as I was admitted on a Thursday were I had to stay the weekend). Fortunately, as a result, by law my son had to be transferred to Royal north shore, where his new treating doctors conferred and stated, he was mis diagnosed and his current medications should be slowly reduced. They allowed him to leave within a week, and in my opinion was in a stable but much worse state than when he was admitted to Hornsby Mental hospital. It was an unfortunate situation I was placed in as a parent although, in my opinion was made much worse by extremely incompetent and unprofessional staff who were also corrupt with the mental health tribunal appearing to protect their incompetence by covering it up, something I thought was only done at Hornsby Police. This in my opinion was extremely obvious, and after posting this review I will be expecting another visit from the Hornsby Police for involuntary admission with more fabricated facts on my discharge papers as before. That is what this country has become especially in places like Hornsby with agencies like these managed and staffed by some of the most duplicitous and deceitful people I have ever met throughout my life so far. Below is the actual email sent from the mental Health tribunal, so please come to your own conclusion regarding these comments of a person deemed mentally ill by upstanding Psychiatrists at Hornsby mental health with credentials along with their relationship with Hornsby police who are also true professionals in what they do and how they do it along with an extremely honorable mental health tribunal magistrate. Furthermore, should anyone ever be placed in this horrible position with a loved one suffering from mental illness especially due uncalled for draconian measures with police being judge and jury with your only recourse being a magistrate, I suggest reading and researching the work of Peter R. Breggin MD before committing them to a life of organ damaging medications.
