We had a great experience at Annata this weekend. John, the owner and sommelier, is deeply passionate about wine, and took a unique approach to pairings for a set menu we tried, offering two quite different wines for each course, presenting and providing a taste of each before we made a choice. We made some great discoveries and thoroughly enjoyed everything we tasted, including of course the beautifully presented and delicious food. It was all gorgeous but if I had to choose a favourite, the BBQ pork neck with burnt pineapple was out of this world. So glad to have found this gem not too far from home. Recommended!

Annata is a really lovely venue, the food is good and the wine list is extensive but the value and presentation is not there when compared to other fine dining restaurants in Sydney (hatted or not hatted). The tooth fish (two small pieces) $75, the beef cheeks $48. Again, lovely flavours but the presentation all dishes ordered was disappointing - I brought clients here and when the plates were put in front of us, I genuinely felt embarrassed. The table we were seated at was wonky - one waiter identified this and fixed it quite quickly, thankfully, but it was awkward encounter (with all the food and drinks needing to be cleared and four people having to stand up in the middle of the restaurants surrounded by people trying to enjoy their meal). On top of that, questions raised regarding the menu and various alterations was met with sarcasm from our main waitress. A behaviour that all four of us did not appreciate. If you are marketing yourself at a fine dining restaurant and are charging premium prices (I.e over $500 was spent here this evening) that comes with a certain expectation. Unfortunately Annata missed the mark for all 4 of us.
