I was fortunate enough to be referred to Return to Play and Dr Maharaj mid last year after a range of various issues - the cause of which hadn't being identified by a number of different doctors and specialists over the previous months, with a feeling like they were now starting to either just give up or suggesting medications to treat symptoms rather than identifying the root cause. From our initial meeting O'Neil showed an immense amount of interest, patience and compassion that I had rarely seen or previously experienced - subsequently working closely with me, utilising his varied experience and network of contacts, to strive for a diagnosis and resolution. In addition to the above and the appointments themselves, he has also always been incredibly responsive to any email/phone queries, questions or concerns that Ive had along the way. O'Neil thinks holistically and factors in random aspects that may normally be ignored or discounted, and he isn't restricted by his own potential diagnosis, reevaluating and taking different routes if considered necessary along the journey. Outside of the above, he is also just a really nice guy! Couldn't recommend him highly enough.

I've found Dr Maharaj to be warm, knowledgeable and extremely competent across a range of sports medicine topics. He has been invaluable in helping my nephew to get healthy, stay healthy and achieve his athletic dreams

I have been a patient of O'Neill's for almost a year; he is the most skilled, professional but respectful Dr I've ever met; he is passionate about his craft and is a visionary; he makes detailed diagrams to explain diagnoses and I've never felt he has spoken down to me; always worth the 2 hr trip there and home. Had a consult with O'Neill a few weeks ago regarding a shoulder issue. He was lovely to speak with, made things easy to understand by not using overly technical medical jargon and I'm confident that he's provided me with the best strategy to resolve the issue. Never heard of a 'Sports Doctor' before but glad I have now and consider myself fortunate that O'Neill's my sports doctor. Thank you O'Neill (and Bree) 20.01.22 - An update to my previous review - Visited O'Neill recently for an issue with my other shoulder. Result was so good, I was tempted to buy him flowers. I spoke with the secretary requesting information. I was told she had to check with the doctor first. I never heard back. I phoned back several times a few hours later and left multiple voice messages. I called the next day, again leaving multiple messages. A patient of Return2Play I spoke to said she experienced a similar issue trying to organise a cortisone injection. After being referred to O'Neil by a physio because she could get the injection done "quickly". She rang and left a message. After waiting a week for a reply, she went to the practice in person to book. During her consultation with O'Neil, he ordered an MRI despite being told the patient had a pacemaker. By the time the patient got the appropriate imaging done and returned to O'Neil for the injection, three weeks had passed.
