It's a very unassuming place from the road - noticed it a few weeks ago, but wasn't inspired to stop-and-have-a-go. This morning, my wife suggested we do just that. My wife is a genius. :) I have fond memories of backpacking in Paris almost twenty years ago, and grabbing sandwich baguettes from a shop at the railway station was de rigueur. As soon as I saw the sandwich baguettes at French Faves, I excitedly called my wife over - "Wow, they look just like the ones in Paris...". Thin, elegant, simple. On actually eating it? We sharedd a ham & cheese baguette, and it was mind blowing. I love a good sandwich. And I cannot remember having had a better sandwich. Ever. How is it possible?? It's just a baguette + french butter + ham + cheese + pickles. But each element is just perfect, and the quality of each individual ingredient shines through in perfect proportion and combination. Spectacularly. Then the quiche lorraine. This is the best quiche lorraine I have ever had. None of that egg-jelly-with-stodgy-base. This was melt-in-your-mouth shortest of short-crust pastry, with tasty melt-in-your mouth savoury filling. Again, simple and few ingredients, but each element executed perfectly, in a way I've never seen before. Just wow. Lastly, the ham and cheese croissant. It was excellent, and reminded me of the ham and cheese croissants I used to get from Le Croissant Des Halles just outside Queen Victoria Market. But I have to return to the ham and cheese sandwich baguette - you simply must try it. We haven't even tried any of their sweets, and that is what their specialty is! If their savory is any guide, they will be amazing. No hot coffee, which is a bit of a pity. I imagine it proved a distraction to their focus on the food. We did have a lovely loose leaf black tea, however. 10/10. French Faves, thanks for bringing your amazing food to Newcastle.

They do have good croissants but I find their range to be a bit limited as a French pattisserie. I revisited the place recently, and to my biggest surprise, I was told that they don't make coffees anymore yet they call themselves a "cafe". Mind boggling!
