Having seen a number of different therapists over the years, I've become a bit skeptical on how they can help my relationship. However on a recommendation from a friend, I contacted The Relationship Room and I couldn't be more impressed now we are 6 sessions into our couples therapy. It is also great to have such a lovely environment to visit, while also having the flexibility of virtual sessions if needed to fit in with our buy schedules.

My partner and I had one couple counselling session and two individual counselling sessions with a male psychologist. It felt money driven and the things he mentioned didnt align with my husbands and my values. With 15 mins left of the appointment I asked for one way to control my emotions so I can survive the week. He responded with 15 min is not long enough. And then he finished the session 10mins early. Also, at one point he was yawning under his breath while I was opening up which made the session seem transactional. Hope my review helps other couples going though troubled times.

My partner and I have been seeing a therapist at the Relationship Room for a little over 6 months and have a very positive experience. The team at reception are friendly and warm, the office is inviting and does not feel clinical or sterile at all. The therapist we see is Nicole and I can't say enough about how helpful and insightful Nicole has been. Nicole has responded well to my partner and I's preference for "person-centered therapy" and so when we have a session we feel like humans rather than "patients". Relationship therapy is very individual and a personal experience so what works for some may not work for other. All I know is that we have been really pleased with our progress.

About six sessions in, we didn't cover any real ground. We did go over each of our individual histories which, whilst I'm not a psychologist, seemed like a waste of time and money, at least for couples therapy. The learnings here are that if I sought out couples therapy again: I would set realistic goals and expect us to have met them in 2-3 sessions time: Typically couples go to therapy when they're on their last leg's - they don't have the liberty to wait 10 weeks for a granular historical analysis, in my view. Ultimately our therapist wasn't the right one for us: We didn't set any goals or proceed with anything solution-oriented. I can't rate her higher as although she didn't work for us, she may work for some.
